Belonging

What is a Tribe?  There are numerous ways the word is used and I think the author, Sebastian Junger in Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging captures the essence of what it means in this book.   In this brief description we get a sense of what this book is about:

 “We have a strong instinct to belong to small groups defined by clear purpose and understanding—"tribes." This tribal connection has been largely lost in modern society, but regaining it may be the key to our psychological survival.”

Today I spent some time reading a book that was recommended to me by a Café Coach, otherwise known as a branch manager of a financial institution. Peets Coffee and Capital One have opened a location on Miracle Mile, in Coral Gables and it was opening day when I walked by.   I was so interested to learn more about this different concept and found out about the book, Primed to Perform by Neel Doshi & Lindsay McGregor, about building high performing cultures through the science of motivation.

Ladies Empowerment Action Program (L.E.A.P.)

We woke up very early to make the drive to the Homestead Correction Institution to visit the women in the Ladies Empowerment Action Program, (L.E.A.P.), to share Part 2 of our Choose Your Attitude discussion. "The program is designed to stimulate and empower incarcerated women to make positive life changes through a multi-disciplinary approach including entrepreneurship training, education and mentorship."
